Do you have a promise from God that you are waiting diligently for, do you have faith that God will make something that looks impossible, possible, in this blog we are going to dive into 3 things to do while waiting for the promises of God.
Not only do we serve a God who is merciful and loving but we serve a redeeming God who promises to make all things new.
We serve a father that promises to deliver us and rescue us from the grips of the enemy.
We serve a God who promises to give you the desires of your heart.
A god who will never leave you nor forsake you.
I’m sure we can all say that a promise is such a beautiful experience with the Lord, and it is also a purifying experience that can bring confusion, pain, doubt and a river of emotions that we can feel are too much for us to bare.
These are things that happen when we are lacking certain things in our waiting.
Let’s talk about 3 things to do while waiting on the promises of God that can keep us in a state of peace and rest in the Lord, and not allowing open doors for the enemy to distract us in the seasons of waiting.
1. Fasting and Praying
When we are waiting on promises from God that are near and dear to our hearts we have to be sure to be very intentional in what we do in the waiting.
To Fast and pray is one of the most powerful things you can do as a child of God.
Fasting is to abstain from certain foods or food in general for a certain period of time for spiritual purposes.
Prayer is an experience of relationship with God, a time where you can cast all your cares to him, a moment where you can bring it all to his feet, good or bad, direct communication with our father.
Now imagine what happens when you combine both of these two together.
Spiritually you are becoming a power house, increasing you’re anointing.
Choosing to do these things is an experience of humbling your self, killing your flesh and increasing in the spirit.
When we are waiting for promises we can get discouraged and confused.
But when we choose to fast and pray in the midst of the storm rather then sit in worry, God will do miraculous things.
Be intentional about what you are fasting and praying for, think what it is that is truly decreasing your faith.
Wether that is doubt, or what you see does not match what the promise is.
Bring those worries to God, ask him for confirmation, ask for deliverance of those weakening spirits.
Trust that when you do this the Lord will answer and he will bring healing and peace in the waiting.
Nehemiah 1:4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.
2. Read your Bible
To remain in the word is another very powerful thing to do as a child of Christ in every season.
The power of the Bible is beyond our understanding, it is filled with scriptures to help us in every area we will struggle with.
When we read the Bible we are choosing to seek God and study his word, through this we can begin to better understand God.
In scripture we can understand the promises of God.
Seeking God is the one thing in your life that must be above all things, God wants to help us and lead us in everything we do, specially those promises he has given us.
His promises are meant for good to increase our faith and to lead us into the new in Christ.
But we can not know these things if we are not spending time with him.
In his word we can find an everlasting peace. Through his word he gives us wisdom to better understand everything in our life’s.
When we wait on the promises of God he grows our character, and through his word we learn what is the true character of God and what we must embody in all we do.
Psalm 119:9-10 “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.” Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
3. Be Still and Rest
While i have been waiting on the promises of God something I have consistently heard from the Lord is to be still and rest in his presence.
A promise begins with God promising something over our life’s that is dear to our hearts, it starts like a beautifully wrapped gift.
We can start by struggling with the timing of the promise in expectancy because we believe it just must be coming soon.
Soon after, or a while later we realize how much deeper it truly is.
We begin to see how much God is doing in us through the wait.
Usually we think we are ready for the promise and God shows us we are not and we still have work to do.
He doesn’t do this to hurt us but to show us his plan is bigger than what we want to settle for.
In the waiting he prepares us, he teaches us to rely on him.
To be still and trust the process while waiting on the promises of God even when it hurts, and when it does always rest in him.
God knows our beginning and our end. He knows our deepest thoughts, what we struggle with and the gifts he has placed inside of us.
The processing in the waiting reveals us to us the things we ignore for a while, in the end it leads us closer to him.
To be still and rest isn’t easy, some of us reach this only when we surrender after fighting about what we don’t understand.
Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.”
The truth is waiting on the promises of God won’t make any sense.
The best thing we can do for ourselves is to surrender all control and our attempt to understand why God does what he does.
Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
I want you to picture yourself right now living in that promise God has promised you.
Imagine the joy and happiness your heart will be filled with.
Now bring yourself back to your reality, everything you are doing right now won’t be for nothing.
You are sowing seeds that will reap a harvest.
You are building a foundation that can’t be broken.
Beyond that, God has more for you that you will only understand in his time.
Trust him, have faith in his promises. My these 3 things to do while waiting on the promises of God be a blessing to you!
