Blessings my dearest reader, in this new Blog we are going to dive into something very exciting!
We are going to begin our first series about the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Grab a drink and a snack and let’s jump right in!
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
As described in this verse we can understand that these spiritual gifts are distributed by the Holy Spirit
To each one the manifestation is given.
Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not something that is done by our own strengths, but it is something done for us and to which we submit too.
Tongues
The Gift of the Holy Spirit we will speak of today is Tongues!
To begin with, speaking in tongues is a bond of unity in our renewal when we are spirit filled.
There are two fold functions of the Gifts of Tongues.
It is for personal edification and for public exhortation.
Mark 16:17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.
Tongues for personal Edification
- Speaking in Tongues is evidence of the resurrection and Glorification of Jesus Christ.
- It is evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit.
- When we speak in tongues it is a spiritual gift that edifies us personally.
- It is a gift that brings the church spiritual edification when it is interpreted
- Speaking in tongues is how the Holy Spirit intercedes through us when in prayer.
Tongues for Public Exhortation
- The gifts of the Spirit is more about Love not the experience of the gifts.
- There should only be 2-3 speaking in “tongues” at once and someone must interpret what they say, it only edifies the church when it is interpreted.
- Anyone who speaks in “tongues” should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said.
- No gift is given to any believer for personal gain or pride.
- The gifts are placed in the church to be exercised by the body for mutual gain so that all believers can be edified, and to reach unbelievers.
CONCLUSION
It is important to understand the impact of the Holy Spirits full operation of the gifts.
It is more than just “speaking in tongues” It is about coming into the fullness of the gifts and fruit of the Spirit.
Through these gifts the Holy Spirit equips us for serving the Kingdom of God.
It is important to desire the most helpful gifts to the body and the church.
This means that not every believer will have the same gifts as every other believer.
Most importantly we must always evaluate and confirm that those of us who do use the gifts let LOVE be their highest goal.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. I pray this Blog blesses you! XOXO
